After completing his University studies, Greg Aziz joined the Affiliated Foods in 1971. This was his Family’s’ business that dealt with wholesale food distribution. Their distributions also hit the best fresh foods markets in the United States as well as the Eastern Canada.

Apart from working with his family business, Gregory Aziz also had investments in several banks in the New York City. The knowledge he obtained on these investments made him identify investment opportunities in banks that made him plan and execute the acquisition of the National Steel Car Company in the year 1994 from the then owner Dofasco. The company is based in Hamilton, Ontario. Before the acquisition, the National Steel Car which had initially been a great company had deteriorated in performance. Greg had a vision of making the company great again. By 1999, only five years after the acquisition, Greg Aziz had achieved his goals. His pillars of success were strategic human and capital management, optimization of the company engineering capabilities and team-building. The company that was initially producing 3500 cars yearly started producing more than 12 000 cars yearly by 1999. The number of employees also rose from 600 to about 3000.

Presently, National Steel Car is the best in the railroad cargo car manufacturing industries with regards to innovation and production capacity. In the North America, it’s the only such company with ISO 9001:2008 certification an honor which they have maintained for more than 18 years. Over the years, the National Steel Car has grown to be more diverse, value driven, innovative and more dynamic than ever before. This, the chairman Greg Aziz attributes to the loyalty and support the company gets from its customers as well as the attention given to the customers by the National Steel Car family which believes in honoring the company’s past traditions, moving forward with purpose, always performing with excellence and quality being priority and always being in the lead.
